Letter to Ufficio Anagrafe
Draft a letter to the Ufficio Anagrafe of your town of interest to request a State of the Family Certificate or a Certificate of Residency.
About this letter
It is addressed to the Anagrafe office in the town of particular interest to the researcher. This office is primarily concerned with records of the current populace, but also maintains records on households (similar to a census) in the historical sense. From this office, one can gain the Certificate of Residency (which is for people who currently live in the town. Do not request this for people who are dead or have moved elsewhere), and the Certificate of Family Status (which has vital data for an entire household, historically).
We highly recommend sending no payment unless they request it. Of all forms of payment, an electronic transaction or cashiers check from a bank drafted in Euros are the best choices. Do not send any other form of payment as it will be extrememly difficult or impossible for them to receive it! If they require payment, they will provide instructions for doing so. With your letter, include a self-addressed, unstamped envelope. Also, please send all of your letters registered post. This may cost more money, but it is vital that you know when they receive your letter as it will provide the necessary proof of receipt when following up with the town if a response is not received within two months.
Fill in/select the appropriate information in the spaces below, then click the submit button. The letter will then be translated and shown to you. Be sure to print it or save the page to your computer at that time.
